Brae McKee is a musician and multidisciplinary artist from Australia, based in Los Angeles. Best known for his work under the moniker Bjéar, his music has garnered millions of streams and been featured in television and advertising. With a deep love for cinema and storytelling, Rosewood marks his debut as a filmmaker — a natural extension of his creative practice that blends sound, image, and atmosphere. Drawn to mood, mystery, and visual composition, McKee approaches film with the same intuition and emotional weight that defines his music.
Rosewood began as a feeling. Years ago, I was struck by a brief moment in The Godfather Part II — a quiet scene on a train, where a hand enters the frame to pour a glass of water. That very brief image haunted me, and stayed with me. I wanted to stay there.
This film is my first attempt at filmmaking — a personal experiment in tone, pacing, and visual composition. I approached it as a form of self-schooling, trying to translate what I felt and saw into something cinematic. I’ve long been drawn to the boldness of filmmakers like David Lynch, Wes Anderson, and Quentin Tarantino. With Rosewood, I wanted to explore mystery without resolution, unease without horror. It’s about presence, silence, and the tension in misinterpretation and things unsaid.
My background is in music, where I work under the name Bjéar, but cinema has always been my true passion; a more complete medium where I can convey all of my passions in one piece of art. I don’t pretend to have all the answers of how to tell a story yet; this is just a first step. But I hope the film makes people feel what I felt when that hand entered the frame.
