On Thursday, January 23, Pope Francis called on Catholics to be constructive “digital citizens,” using the Internet, described as a “gift of God,” to demonstrate their solidarity. The Argentine pope made public his first message on social communications, traditionally delivered each year on the occasion of the feast of Saint Francis de Sales, patron saint of journalists. It is entitled “communication in the service of an authentic culture of encounter”.

In this message which addresses the phenomenon of social networks in a confident tone, Francis affirms that “the Internet can offer more possibilities for meeting and solidarity between all, and that this is a good thing, a gift from God”.
