CARTEL OF ANGELS

In making this fantastico-humorous tale, I wanted to convey all the emotion and magic that my little town in the Val d'Oise, L'Isle-Adam, contains and conveys, and without lapsing into moralism, to encourage philosophical reflection.

The filming, a truly jubilant experience, took place in L'Isle-Adam, notably on a branch of the river Oise, as well as in Mortefontaine-en-Thelle (Oise) and various districts of Paris. Sam' is played by Gil Morand, who was also my first assistant, himself a director and acting teacher, assisted by one of his students, Gérard Dupont, in the role of the Joker. Jacques Ruisseau, the man on the bus, played the lead in France's first daily TV soap opera, Le Temps des Copains, 1961/1963.

Still inexperienced in sound recording, and the dubbing proved impossible for logistical reasons, I used post-production tricks to finalize the sound design.

Between recreation, entertainment, stupefaction, exploitation of man by man, of the planet by man, of man by war on the one hand, and on the other hand a medium of anticipation in the primary sense (to know is to act), a medium of divination, of spiritualism, a true act of faith, a solid proof of love, an instrument of philosophical reflection, an introspective arsenal, or a factor of real progress through the transmission of knowledge and the elevation of consciousness it enables, the possibilities of cinema are more than immense, in fact infinite as is the case for any art form, but from Andreï Tarkovski to Leni Riefenstahl via Cocteau, Besson and Dupontel, there comes a time when you (really) have to choose.

J'ai voulu, en réalisant ce conte fantastico-humoristique, transmettre toute l'émotion et la magie que contient et véhicule ma petite ville du Val d'Oise, L'Isle-Adam, et sans pour autant sombrer dans le moralisme, faire oeuvre d'incitation à la réflexion philosophique.

Le tournage, expérience véritablement jubilatoire, eut lieu à L'Isle-Adam, notamment sur un bras de la rivière Oise, ainsi qu'à Mortefontaine-en-Thelle (Oise) et dans divers quartiers de Paris. 'Sam' est interprété par Gil Morand, qui fut également mon premier-assistant, lui-même metteur-en-scène et professeur de comédie d'ailleurs secondé par un de ses élèves, Gérard Dupont, dans le rôle du Joker. Jacques Ruisseau, l'homme du bus, fut rôle principal dans le premier feuilleton télévisé quotidien français, Le Temps des Copains, 1961/1963.

Encore peu expérimenté en matière de prise-de-son, et le doublage s'avérant impossible à réaliser pour des raisons logistiques, j'ai donc usé d'artifices en postproduction pour finaliser l'habillage sonore.

Entre récréation, divertissement, abrutissement, exploitation de l'homme par l'homme, de la planète par l'homme, de l'homme par la guerre d'une part, et par ailleurs média d'anticipation au sens premier (savoir est agir), support de divination, de spiritisme, véritable acte de foi, solide preuve d'amour, instrument de réflexion philosophique, arsenal introspectif ou encore facteur de réel progrès par la transmission du savoir et l'élévation du niveau de conscience qu'il permet, les possibilités du cinéma sont plus qu'immenses, en réalité infinies comme c'est d'ailleurs le cas pour toute forme d'art, mais d'Andreï Tarkovski à Leni Riefenstahl en passant par Cocteau, Besson et Dupontel, vient un moment où il faut (vraiment) choisir.
