Experiencing Interruptions?

Shine

Adam Pelling-Deeves' Shine is an experimental animated poem. It's a meaningful and playful combination of word and image which rewards repeated watches through its use of purposeful, mischievous invention.

Darwood Grace's words were written as an uplifting message to himself to Shine through times of darkness. The poem began life as song lyrics, the tune and rhythm of which emerge throughout the film.

The production process was to print out an edit of the performance, doodle on the frames and then scan them back into a sequence. Lit with a flashlight and made with a household printer/scanner and felt tips, this was a £0 budget labour of love with chaos as a welcome factor. These lo-fi methods and a no-going-back production attitude imbues the film with jazz-like and very human qualities that Shine out in a world of AI assisted creativity.
