Director Biography - Brett Maline

Brett is a Los Angeles based filmmaker. But don't worry, he's from a small farming town in central Nebraska and was born with severe scoliosis so he's definitely niche. In 2014, Brett got the opportunity to shoot a short film written by the Farrelly brothers for HBO’s Project Greenlight. After being selected to perform in the 2016 CBS Diversity Showcase and a three year run on the UCB house sketch team The New Deal, Brett was selected to perform on the Groundlings Sunday Company. With a YouTube channel featured on the Today Show, Good Morning America, and the homepages of Reddit and Funny or Die, Brett’s most recent project he co-wrote, starred in, and produced, Work Buds was an official selection for the 2018 NYTV Festival. When he’s not writing, acting, or performing, Brett enjoys playing guitar and being a die hard Nebraska Cornhuskers football fan which entails lots of unnecessary screaming at the TV.

Director Statement

A lot of times in TV and film, people with disabilities or physical conditions are portrayed as weak, lonely, really nice and just "needing a win." This pilot ain't that. Being born and living with Klippel Feil syndrome, a rare form of scoliosis, I wanted to tell a story of someone with my same physical condition who was thriving just like everyone else and also a piece of shit in some parts of his life just like everyone else.
