Faryar Hosseini was born on October 3rd, 1991 in Tehran. He left studying mathematic in one of the best universities of Iran due to passion for
theater and cinema.
She has won several awards for writing and directing “Tehran-Belgrade” (2014) right after she entered university to study theater in 2013. The play was inspired by her favorite screen-writer “Charlie Kaufman”. In 2015 she won several admirations for her next play “Touran”. Since then she started making amateur films until 2018 when she wrote and directed her first professional short film named “Lego”. The film has a romantic and fantasy theme. Surreal events, like what is seen in Charlie Kaufman’s works, are traceable in Faryar’s writings.
Fortunately with this film (Lego), she gained a full scholarship from the Ohio University in Master of Fine Arts in Film
Some time ago I had an awful fight with my exboyfriend and during the fight I fantasized him turned into an infant. I thought I would have loved him more if there was no words and definitions to every action we take. This fantasy became the core idea of “Lego” which is a contemplation of nature of relationship to me. In this film I try to face the audiences with this question: would your “ever-lasting” love stand a metamor
phosis? What would you do when he/she doesn’t even recall you?
Middle eastern cinema in my opinion is filled with reality which is bitter often and I’m trying to take distance from this trend and make what cinema is to me: dreaming. “Lego” In form and narration is inspired by works of two great artists: Charlie Kaufman and David Lynch. Daring to dream and narrate through images are two major lessons taken from these two masters.
I hope this film as my first short film finds its way through prestigious festivals and facilitate the production of my future projects.
