Lisa Hammer is an award-winning film director, screenwriter, editor and musician. Hammer began her career as an art-house darling, creating cult films, like Pus$bucket, which screened all over the world, causing near riots and landing on Blockbuster and Tower video’s Top Midnight Movie lists. In 2016 her feature film The Sisters Plotz was screened at prestigious venues: the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood and The Anthology Film Archives in NY, and has since been acquired by FandangoNow, Roku TV and Amazon Prime with great reviews. Her surrealist film Empire of Ache was acquired by The Getty Museum, in the feminist filmmakers archive curated by Miranda July. She co-directed the hitman mockumentary feature The Invisible Life of Thomas Lynch with James Merendino (SLC Punk) which went on to win best feature film at the CMJ Music and Film Festival. Her original comedy series Maybe Sunshine has won numerous awards and gained thousands of fans, but she is perhaps best known internationally as the character Triana Orpheus on the Cartoon Network show The Venture Bros. Lisa is currently editing a new horror-comedy feature film starring Molly Ringwald.

Writer Statement

Ghostapus is a sarcastic dark comedy, monster-movie spoof with a climate change message. It's "Jaws" with a ghost-octopus, "Airplane!" with an airplane, with a dash of "Silent Spring". I wrote it while recovering from cancer, supporting the protectors at Standing Rock . My anger grew, watching the injustices served to the people who are protesting for the good of ALL of us. It doesn't stop at Standing Rock. Even as you read this, illegal and unwanted fracking is happening all over the globe. I am happy to deliver laughs in this fun comedy, including VERY sarcastic misogyny and Austin Powers style sensuality, but I am serious about addressing climate change and the destruction of wildlife, while being inclusive of diverse voices: Aboriginal, women, LGBTQ, the disabled and many other minorities. Ghostapus represents all the destroyed and displaced creatures of the earth. I chose to present my message through absurd comedy. It’s time for the underdogs to become overdogs!
