Director Statement

In this age of Netflix and binge watching, drama series appear to be a new future for film and storytelling. As equipment and production processes become easier and faster, what we see on TV is now becoming on par with what we see in the theater. This excites me to no end. One of my favorite things about watching a film or drama is getting involved with the characters in ways that I begin caring for them and their future. Series allow this viewer-character relationship to continue beyond just one or two hours. In fact, it is often the time in between each episode that I become even more attached to the characters as I contemplate what will happen in the next episode. Why did they do what they did? What decision will this character make? What circumstance will this character find themselves in next?

These are the thoughts that inspired me to create the film Continuance, which leaves viewers with many more questions than answers. I was also inspired by series like Black Mirror, Twilight Zone, Fringe, and even House of Cards. Because of this, Continuance feels like the pilot episode for a drama series and lends itself to a "next episode." How many questions will you be asking yourself between this pilot and episode 2?
