Outside the Window

An eight-year-old boy, Le-Ming, loses the beetle which his mother rarely gives him because of his mischief. He enters the community's “abandoned lot” to find his beetle, and meets a strange old woman who wants to accompany him to find the beetle. The frightened Le-Ming returns to the temple to find her mother's help; however, his mother will be angry if she knows he enters the lot. Therefore, Le-Ming has to face the next fantasy journey alone and figures out who this woman is and the relationship between him and the woman is about; meanwhile, he has to keep the secret toward his mother.

八歲的小男孩陳樂明因為調皮而弄丟了媽媽難得送給他的甲蟲，樂明為了他心愛的甲蟲進入了社區的”禁地”，在那相遇了一位奇怪的老婆婆好心地說要一起陪他找甲蟲，意外的是怪婆婆好像跟阿明認識，驚嚇的樂明返回廟宇尋找媽媽的求助，不過忙於廟宇事務的媽媽卻希望樂明與她一起靜下心幫忙祭典活動，一心想找回甲蟲的樂明只好獨自面對接下來的奇幻旅程，這位婆婆到底是誰？男孩與婆婆到底有什麼關係？一老一少會發生什麼有趣的事呢？媽媽會發現這個重大的秘密嗎？

Director Biography - Shawn Lai

Shawn Lai, born in Taichung City, Taiwan, is a director, writer, producer, and film educator. He graduated from an MFA filmmaking major at New York Film Academy. In his stories, he loves to write the characters in the fairy tale stories who struggle over what seems unchangeable in society or life and turn them into allegoric fantasy films.

賴楷璿 (Shawn Lai)，出生於台灣台中市，等公車電影工作室共同創辦人，致力於影像創作及影像教育。紐約電影學院 (New York Film Academy) 研究所畢業，主修導演。電影作品有2021年執導《將會遇見的你》、2020年編劇執導《The World I See》，其作品入圍英國羅德島電影節、美國休士頓世界電影節、日本東京類型電影節最佳奇幻短片＆最佳導演。喜歡以童話故事的概念來刻畫小人物身處在艱辛的大環境時，追尋自我的故事；欲以奇幻的影視風格帶給觀眾作品的寓意。平時喜歡畫畫、旅行、寫劇本，最喜歡的導演為宮崎駿及Giuseppe Tornatore。

Director Statement

Being young, everyone experiences their own fantasy. I believe that the movie will arouse the buried feelings and the hidden world that exists within people. I look forward to sharing the feelings of being afraid, curious and feeling blessed with the audience. Also, this movie is able to reveal the non-living perspective that is often neglected and allow the audience to feel the accompany from them.

The world doesn’t lack worrisome things; nevertheless, when people meet with others, with object and incidents, a lot of the time, it means more than just a coincidence. Filming in where I grew up at, Taiwan, brings out the most of the imagination and stories that will be dedicated to the film.

每個人小時候都有屬於自己的奇幻故事，有些奇幻甚至是在簡單的生活周圍卻無人察覺的存在。對於故事裡的角色，男孩及阿嬤都過著原本互不干涉的人生，但再一次意外可以擁有一次似夢非夢的旅程。對觀眾來說也是，看完這部電影，可以是小時候的童貞，也可以是身旁無形中細微的陪伴，甚至是個人生命裡理所當然的錯過，任何感受都值得是觀眾與這部電影所相遇而產生的奇幻故事。
