Obsession

"Obsession" is a drama dealing with the themes of loneliness, disconnection in relationships, and hidden emotional ties. The story follows the emotional turmoil of a young man named Olcay after the end of a four-year relationship and his complicated relationship with his roommate's girlfriend, Zeynep.

Olcay is a bearded and somewhat disheveled young man in his mid-twenties. The story begins with Olcay’s phone call to his mother in a dimly lit living room full of old furniture. During the conversation, they discuss his father’s financial demands and his mother’s concerns. Olcay tells his mother that his four-year relationship is over, but he struggles to explain why. This separation has created a huge void in Olcay’s inner world.

The biggest complication in Olcay’s life is his secret relationship with Zeynep, his roommate’s girlfriend. Zeynep comes home dressed in disheveled clothes and without makeup. In the conversations between the two, Zeynep tidies up the mess while Olcay expresses his pain. While Zeynep tells Olcay not to suffer, Olcay tries to explain the emptiness and sadness inside him. Zeynep’s statement, "Suffering is good," deepens Olcay’s emotional breakdown.

During the argument, the male character, Zeynep’s lover and Olcay’s roommate, enters. He does not notice the incident between Zeynep and Olcay. Zeynep goes to her room as if nothing happened. Meanwhile, we see the psychological superiority of Zeynep’s lover over Olcay. After he goes to his room, Olcay is left alone and tries to cope with his complex emotions.

Director Biography - Orhan Kerem Kartal

ORHAN KEREM KARTAL'S BIOGRAPHY

He is a young director, screenwriter, and producer. Born on October 9, 2002, in the Karasu district of Sakarya, Kartal began his studies in the History Department at Sakarya University in 2021. Shortly after, he discovered his passion for cinema and made significant contributions to the field.

With his six-episode mini-series "Faili Meçhul", which he wrote and directed, he won a project scholarship from Istanbul Gelişim University's Radio, Television, and Cinema Department. He made his first short film attempt with "Sıfıra Dönüşüm". He then wrote and directed short films such as "Bilinmez" (2022), "None" (2024), and "Obsession" (2024).

In January 2025, he served as the screenwriter and director of the short film "Born Yesterday". In the same month, he also took on the role of producer for the short films "Alone" and "A Day to Be Forgotten".

Continuing his active production in 2025, Kartal wrote, directed, and produced "Ses Geldiğinde" and "Yük". He also took on acting in addition to writing, directing, and producing in the short film "Famn". Furthermore, he produced several other short films in 2025, including "5 Dakika", "Denemeye Devam", and "Sorgu".

He is currently seeking support and sponsorship for his upcoming graduation project, "Dostlar Sağolsun".

Additionally, in 2022 and 2023, he served as a team leader and event organizer at the International Uşak Short Film Festival and the Apart International Photography, Video, and Short Film Symposium.
