Experiencing Interruptions?

objeto de deseo

"objeto de deseo" (Object of desire) is a dance film exploring the fleeting nature of desire through rhythm, movement, and montage. Two male dancers inhabit a landscape of warm tones and intimate frames, engaging in repeated gestures of approach and contact. As one reaches for the other — the object of desire — the latter vanishes through a classical editing device that maintains movement continuity across cuts, shifting suddenly to a wide shot in brighter, desaturated light.

The work is structured around the rhythm of editing, alternating between calm and tension, not only through the performers’ interaction but also through camera movement, framing, and shot duration. Concluding at the seashore in blue, subdued tones, the piece dissolves into the ocean’s waves, erasing all presence.

At its core, Objeto de deseo is an exploration of screendance language, using choreographic precision and cinematic tools to reflect on presence, absence, and longing.

The soundtrack is an electroacoustic composition built from transformed percussive and reversed sounds inspired by the musical tradition of Noh theater. It creates a sense of time that is elastic and ritualistic, emphasizing space, silence, and sudden rhythmic accents. The resulting soundscape heightens the emotional tension of the interaction, transforming it into a ritual rather than a linear narrative, and gradually dissolves into a feeling of emptiness and unresolved longing.
