Nicole Fairbrother is an actress and filmmaker, known for Monster (2016) and Animism (2012).
Monster was written, directed and produced by Fairbrother. She also starred in it. This short film premiered at the short film corner in Cannes, went on to win an award of distinction at the Canadian Short Film Festival and premiered in the U.S. at Cinequest where one critic raved that the Monster had "F*cked me up for a year" and left him unable to sleep.
Fairbrother was born in Vancouver, BC, Canada but her family quickly relocated to a small farming community in the Okanagan. Sneakers turned into gum boots and bicycles turned into motorcycles and tractors.
Small town B.C. was quiet and there weren't a lot of other kids to play with. Fairbrother became her dad's sidekick, and when they weren't checking out tractors or cows, "little puddins" as he called her, was reading, watching movies and closely observing her larger than life family, while letting her imagination grow and take over.
As an adult, Fairbrother studied Psychology and focused on raising her family. After the sudden death of a close family member, Fairbrother found solace in the form of writing poetry. A family member submitted one of Fairbrother's poems. It quickly became published and Fairbrother began to receive letters from fans, moved by her words. Fairbrother realized she needed to pursue this passion.
The writing led to acting which led to directing and producing.
Nicole continues making films with a ridiculously supportive film community and a completely irreverent sense of humour. Together they open up doors far bigger than even the largest of barn doors.
