Director Biography - Henry Thong

Henry Thong is an emerging Australian documentary filmmaker. At 21, he has produced dozens of short films, and has been screened and awarded at various film festivals in Australia and the United States.

Henry found his calling in high school, where he produced multiple short films. His first, The Girl in the Camera, won the International Youth Silent Film Festival in Portland Oregon as judged by a celebrity jury consisting of Tom Desanto (Producer, Transformers and X-Men), Lourri Hammack (President, LAIKA Studios) and Steve Oster (Producer, Grimm). Henry's first documentary, Urban Exploration, was screened and awarded at the 2014 ATOM Awards and BUFTA Awards, and the 2015 Melbourne International Film Festival.

Stirred by the global ramifications of the 2014 Sony Pictures Cyber-Attack and 2015 Charlie Hebdo Attack, Henry produced Content Censored in 2015, a short documentary exploring censorship in art and the media. The film took Henry and his team to Sydney, Melbourne, Los Angeles and New York City where they interviewed media professionals including Disney producer Don Hahn (Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King) and award-winning editorial cartoonists Alan Moir and Cathy Wilcox. The film opened the Oscar-qualifying St Kilda Film Festival.

Henry currently produces Makers Who Inspire - a series of documentaries profiling makers of art – in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York City.
