Shreela Agarwal is a director, editor, and screenwriter from India. Originally from Delhi, Shreela spent her adolescent years in Mumbai, and has just graduated from the Lasalle College of Arts in Singapore, where she did her Bachelors in Film. She has completed a slew of short films one of which, 樸運(The Keeper), a Chinese fiction, which she directed has since been screened in several film festivals across the world.
Shreela is also a photographer and a certified mountaineer who enjoys traveling and meeting new people. She currently lives between Singapore and Mumbai.
When people move to live and work in a different country they tend to look out for other people from their own country. In Singapore, the majority of Indians are immigrant workers. Hence, being an Indian, I have always been curious to learn more about the nature of the lives an immigrant worker leads.
Are they very different from me and you? Or are they who they are because of the circumstances they are in?
I was drawn to question why I, after residing here for just a year, could be looked upon as being a Singaporean, whereas these migrant workers (some who have been staying here for as long as 20 years) will always be looked upon by a majority of people of this country as outsiders.
Inspired from this thinking came about the story of मेरा भाई (My Brother).
