The cage of colors

This is the story of a young woman admitteed to a mysterious mental hospital for suicide attempt. According to the doctors, Samantha suffers from schizophrenia, since she experiences different types of hallucinations, including an imaginery friend, whom she is hopelesly in love with. But, How to deal with a love if she doesn´t even know if it is real? These and other doubts stay in Samanthas mind making her cuestioning about herself and forcing her to make decisions that will affect the rest of her life. Our protagonist has been really affected by her father’s death and fights a dangerous depression, but inside that hospital an even worse evil exists. The Psychiatrist in charge of the center frequently abuses of their patients in the most depraved ways, even pushing them to suicide. The women at the center will have to find a way to stay together and overcome the depraved doctor, before suffering the same fate.

Writer Biography - Matilde Aricema Carreón García-Bedoya

Es una joven guionista con estudios en filosofía y dirección de cine. ¿Su especialidad? Contar historias, crear mundos y personajes que representen o cuestionen la realidad. Esa es su pasión: sumergirse en la ficción.
A los dieciocho años publicó un poemario titulado "Versos de Hadas", también ha escrito una novela de fantasía juvenil "El Hada y el Mago: la semilla del caos", la cual se encuentra en su última fase de corrección.
Estudió letras en la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) y Filosofía en la Universidad Antonio Ruiz de Montoya (UARM) y se formó como guionista en el Instituto de Cine de Madrid (ICM), además de llevar diversos diplomados y talleres de especialización alrededor de España y América Latina (México, Cuba, Argentina). Asimismo, estudió diversos diplomados de dirección audiovisual en institutos como el Instituto Peruano de Arte y Diseño (IPAD), la Escuela Peruana de la Industria Cinematográfica (EPIC) y la Escuela de Cine de Lima. Habiendo desarrollado también el cargo de directora en algunos cortometrajes independientes con la productora que ha fundado denominada Pandora 180° Films & Arts. Además, de ser redactora creativa en agencias de publicidad. En la actualidad está desarrollando una maestría en escritura creativa.

This story critiques and offers a unique perspective to the social segregation faced by people with mental illness. To convey the true extent of this stigma, the author draws on real-life experiences as part of the neurodivergent community. Through this film, we enter the mind of Samantha, a young woman navigating mental health challenges and experiencing reality in a unique way. On her journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance, we are witnesses to the challenges and dangers she faces and how Samantha finds strength through her art. The subject matter is both controversial and groundbreaking as it critically examines the pharmaceutical industry while remaining optimistic, exploring themes of identity, love, creativity and the struggle to fit into society. In this way, our story becomes a compelling and enlightening experience that offers a glimpse into a reality that many endure in silence. It also encourages reflection to inspire empathy and understanding for those battling against the stigma and social rejection surrounding mental health.
