Joko & Bowo Reading Vol. 1

Responding to the political situation in Indonesia towards the upcoming 2019 presidential election, a group of film students are planning to produce a short film with the two presidential candidates as the main characters of the story, Joko and Bowo. The first time they met the actors playing the characters for a reading, one of them stated that he has personal problems with the other actor. When the reading started, the awkward tension is clearly showing.
Moreover, when the actors read the script and act out each other's character for the first time, the conflicts and problems of each characters in the film script merged with their personal problems in real life.

Director Biography - I Kadek Jaya Wiguna

Jaya (I Kadek Jaya Wiguna) is studying at the Faculty of Film and Television Jakarta Institute of the Arts with majoring in film directing. He has directed several short films since high school with Kikuk! Films community which was founded with his friends. Choosing a film school after graduating from high school is based on his dream to build a film industry in Bali, his homeland.

Director Statement

In 2014, Joko Widodo and Prabowo Subianto was an opponent in presidential election and their influence splits Indonesian citizens into two groups of supporters that caused polarization until the next presidential election in 2019. But then after Jokowi got re-elected and choosen to be the indonesian president again, Prabowo is selected to be in Jokowi's cabinet.

This film want to portray how life of Indonesian citizens influenced by politic. How peoples’ political choice just like a religion, and the god is the politician or the figure who represent those coalition/party. Despite of how fanatic the people, but those figures and politic itself is liquid. Yesterday they were enemies and today they’re friends. Sometimes it feels like watching someone acted out in a movie, but in reality, that was real.
