Born in Indianapolis, IN, and currently residing in Los Angeles, CA, I embarked on my filmmaking journey at The Los Angeles Film School in Hollywood. Originally drawn to the industry through music videos in my hometown, I discovered a profound passion for storytelling and creating narratives. Though I can't pinpoint the exact moment, a definitive switch occurred, compelling me to translate my inner thoughts into films that resonate with audiences, leaving them with a cascade of emotions post-theater experience.
As this is my directorial debut, I draw inspiration from esteemed creators like Jordan Peele, Tyler Perry, Ryan Coogler, Tarantino, and Michael Bay, each influencing my evolving directorial style. As a filmmaker, my goal is to bring my unique stories to life on the screen and, in the process, evoke impactful reactions from viewers.
With a plethora of future projects written and waiting to be realized, I am eager to contribute to the cinematic landscape and showcase narratives that I am passionate about. In my cinematic journey, I aspire to not only create films that I, as an audience member, would enjoy but also to provide my viewers with an escape from the outside world or provoke contemplation.
Looking ahead, I set ambitious goals for myself, envisioning a future where accolades such as an Oscar, Emmy, and Grammy are not just dreams but tangible accomplishments, and perhaps even more awards in a single year. The journey has just begun, and I am excited to continue sharing my stories with the world.
The genesis of "iDISCONNECT" emerged from my profound immersion in the realm of social media. Observing the pervasive attachment of my peers to this digital landscape, it became evident how the virtual world often collides with reality. The film seeks to communicate a sensitive message about society's infatuation with likes and followers, urging us to reevaluate our priorities and foster tangible connections with the world around us.
Opting for a sci-fi genre was a deliberate artistic choice, rooted in my belief that our future may unfold as a technology dystopia. Referencing works like Fahrenheit 451, set in a technology-dominated 2050s, the film projects a cautionary vision where tangible, real-world experiences are overshadowed by an overwhelming reliance on digital interactions.
Candace and James, the central characters, represent divergent perspectives on the societal shift. Candace symbolizes those enamored with the allure of popularity, chasing likes and followers. On the flip side, James embodies the nostalgic loners yearning for a return to simpler times when friendships were forged outdoors, calls were made on house phones, and letters were the mode of communication.
The narrative unfolds to reveal the evolution of both characters, exploring the profound impact of a society dominated by social media. Candace, seemingly having it all, becomes a poignant example of the pitfalls of excessive digital engagement. Through their journeys, I aim to prompt the audience to reflect on our growing dependence on technology, blurring the lines between artificial intelligence and genuine human connections.
Challenges during production, including a low budget, a tight shooting schedule of three days, and a minimal crew, tested our resilience. Despite these obstacles, I am proud of the film's outcome and anticipate sparking thought-provoking conversations about our current digital society, the trajectory of technological innovation, and the preservation of our intrinsic human essence. "iDISCONNECT" is not merely a film; it is a catalyst for discussions, debates, and, hopefully, a testament to the resilience of storytelling in the face of challenges. I am excited for the journey ahead and aspire to be 1 for 1 in releasing films that resonate and obtain accolades.
