Hypothetically Speaking
Harper and Pat aren’t exactly criminal masterminds. They’re just two best friends with questionable judgment and a dream of building a race car. When a badly timed art heist drops them in the middle of someone else’s crime, they find themselves wanted for a robbery they didn’t commit — this time. With a few sketchy connections, a whole lot of chaos, and lots of dumb luck, they just might track down the one thing they’ve risked everything for. And the thing is stuck in delivery, of course.

Alex Tomić is a Croatian graphic designer and emerging screenwriter with a background in student film, concert production, and design work. His creative journey began with a student documentary project that aired through a national education program. Since then, he has assisted with live orchestral recordings, designing graphics for the South Korean Embassy in Croatia, and contributing visuals for student organizations, national competitions, and his family’s small business that blends Croatian heritage with art and innovation.
Alex’s work, whether visual or written, chases the strange beauty of human connection and the thread that ties us all together. Now focused on screenwriting, he draws from a love of pop culture, character-driven comedy, found family dynamics, and the quiet absurdity of real life. His debut screenplay blends chaotic plans, stylized crime, offbeat humor, complicated friendships, and the connections that hold people together even when everything else falls apart.
I wrote this script as a dare, inspired by a funny comedy movie question at a convention panel. I wanted it to feel like the comedies I grew up with — fast-paced, absurd, chaotic, and full of heart. There’s a particular tone from that era of storytelling that I miss. Comedies leaned into their own weirdness, built around characters you actually wanted to root for, no matter how ridiculous their choices, and the jokes were so well made. I pulled inspiration from real-life moments, from oddball conversations, late-night schemes, and those friendships that somehow survive chaos. At its core, this story is a celebration of lighthearted mess, found-family dynamics, and the thrill of being just competent enough to cause real problems. It’s a celebration of lighthearted chaos and the joy of being ridiculous and just a bit over the top.
