Joaquim Bayle was born in Arras, in the upper part of France on December 9, 1990.
He has directed a number of advertising campaigns which got his start into directing. During these years, which he saw as an artistic laboratory, he began to take an interest in a very singular and existential cinema drawing its inspiration from the tragicomedy and the absurd.
Today, at 32, he is using his solid filming experience to create a very personal first short film, far from his commercial commissions : GWENDOLINE, a dark and absurd tale featuring a post-punk band desperately looking for its audience.
It would be a lie not to admit that the French band Gwendoline's post-punk music feeds the disenchanted doomer that I am. However, the self-deprecation that emerges from this first album is what strikes a chord in me, just like reading Houellebecq or Cioran can give me in terms of sensations.
This specific form of humor makes me rejoice in works that manage to turn dramatic moments into humorous situations.
A formula that is often on the edge but that fascinates me by the counterpoint it manages to create: the emotions, normally expected such as sadness or dismay quickly gives way to laughter.
A large part of this jubilation is also the result of irony, the way intelligence looks back on itself. As a spectator, I find this sensation always very enjoyable and liberating.
In "Après, c'est gobelet!" an album composed by the French band - Gwendoline - initially self-produced and recorded in 2017 in total despair but which miraculously emerged to the public recently, I saw a strong tragi-comic potential to explore in a very personal way. Almost like a therapeutic experience, making this dark comedy in the form of a short film allowed me to vent certain frustrations and desires to laugh at them with lucidity and irony to perhaps find a little fresh air in a life that is far too narrow and serious.
