Director Statement

After completing a film with a larger crew, I always challenge myself to make something that is as minimalist as possible. With the leftover Super 8mm film from my last project, Tinted Love, this film was born. My roommate and longtime college friend Robbie Acevedo and I wrote the script together as our first time collaborating as writers, and we shot it the next weekend at our apartment with our mutual friend from college, Isaiah "ZAVAGE" Little.

We challenged ourselves to keep the film off of social media from development until completion to honor the film's message: make art that is true to yourself. What resulted is a film that I feel perfectly captures my time in Los Angeles so far. The world and everyone around you is moving so fast...how can you create art in an environment like this?

My brother, Luke Bastin, and my best friend from Indiana, Jaylen Koehl (J.A.K), both created tracks for the score to bring the film together and to prove that all you need to make a film is your friends, no matter how far away they live.

Thank you for watching and for your consideration. We hope you get as much inspiration out of watching "freestyle" as the five of us did creating it.
