Director Biography - Faith Wright

Very passionate with all things acting. Faith Wright is a driven, hard working up and coming actress who is always looking for ways to improve, grow and continue finding new ways to dig deeper into the essence of a grounded performance. She is motivated by always seeking out the story and ensuring that it’s told from an honest and relatable standpoint. The goal is to take the audience outside of their norm and into the world of the character or story. Captivate, reach and touch the souls of the viewers and you have done your job.

Faith graduated college in San Jose, California with a BA in Political Science. From there she worked in corporate for 3 years as a Sales Representative for top tech companies. Faith knew from an early age that she wanted to be an actress, however as she got older the idea of pursuing her dream seemed nearly impossible. In 2018 Faith decided to make a choice for herself and drop everything to pursue her dream of becoming an actress. She moved to Vancouver, BC obtained her Permanent Residency and has not looked back since. She believes that often times we hold our own self back through fear.

Faith recently took on the task of creating her own Web Series called “for you.” as a means to stay active and fresh throughout this pandemic. Unbeknownst to her this would unlock doors she never knew she had access to. Breaking down her own fear and barriers, Faith created a project with hopes of showcasing local undiscovered actors as well as tell her story, her way. Instead of waiting for her turn she’s creating her own table for voices just like hers to be heard. She hopes to serve as encouragement for others to not give up striving for their dreams no matter how big. Work ethic is the key.

Director Statement

The intentions behind creating “for you.” Web Series is not only to shed light on the importance of rooting self confidence within, but also, to show black women in a different light. Oftentimes we are assumed to have come from struggle, or from broken homes, uneducated and overall helpless. This is not the case, and just as detrimental it is for others to assume these narratives that are fed through the media, it also affects people of color. This story is personal to me as it will be for many women who have felt encapsulated, shut out, and judged based on the color of our skin. Our worth is so much deeper than our complexion. Our capability is much more vast than we give ourselves credit for. We come from doctors, lawyers, business owners, designers and teachers. I’m here to shed light on a different perspective and a different black experience.

I grew up in a good home with both parents married under one roof. I was loved and nurtured, despite this I knew without ever being verbally told that I was different, that my complexion hindered me from many things. I grew up understanding that lighter was better, I would pray for lighter skin. These issues although seemingly harmless at the time, when left unaddressed can result in self destructive behaviors. As I experienced college and corporate life, these ideas and perceptions about black people morphed into ignorant remarks, inconsiderate questions, and hurtful reactions from coworkers, friends and even relationships. I, like many others, began to believe these things. Oftentimes I was ridiculed if I spoke up for myself, labeled as the “angry black woman”. Unfortunately I had to hold my tongue for the sake of others comfort, because they claimed innocence towards their statements or questions.

I didn’t see much representation of women who looked like me in the careers I was interested in. The exceptions however, we're always in a form of tokens. There was always either one or two women of color chosen, so no matter how great and acceptable I was I always knew they would only pick one or two of us. With this hindrance I also understood that the particular roles that will be played by these individuals were that of negative representation or non realistic representation of the everyday life for me. That's a sad limiting factor that subconsciously limits one's understanding of their own capability.

I’m in such awe and so grateful for this unbelievable cast and crew I was able to pull together. The amount of passion behind each and everyone of them is amazing. I managed to pull everyone together to create Season 1 of this Web Series. We are excited to start planning Season 2, hopefully with a bigger budget to help support the crew and production of this project. The actors each put in the work behind their characters doing full deep dives in order to service the story in the best way they could. We have a COVID-19 Protocol in place that ensures us maintaining safe sets along with our Makeup Team’s COVID-19 Protocol and Certificates.

I’m beyond excited to have the opportunity to showcase this project to you!
