Rules and Terms
Eligibility
Surreal Films is open to filmmakers based in Toronto and across Canada. Films of all genres and styles are welcome, including but not limited to horror, science fiction, fantasy, comedy, drama, animation, and experimental works.
We are seeking films that embrace surreal elements, unconventional storytelling, bold visual styles, dreamlike qualities, or unique cinematic experiences.
Film Requirements
Submitted films must be completed works and suitable for theatrical exhibition.
Maximum runtime: 20 minutes.
Films may have been previously released, screened, or submitted to other festivals and events.
Submission Fee
All submission fees are non refundable. Submission fees support the organization and operation of the screening event.
Selection Process
All submissions will be reviewed by the Surreal Films programming team. Selected filmmakers will be notified by the announced notification date.
Submission does not guarantee acceptance into the screening.
Screening Rights
By submitting your film, you grant Surreal Films permission to screen the selected film as part of the September 25, 2026 screening event at the Revue Cinema in Toronto.
Filmmakers retain all ownership and copyright of their work.
Selected Films
Selected filmmakers will be contacted with further information regarding screening materials, technical requirements, promotional materials, and event details.
Selected filmmakers may be asked to provide film stills, posters, trailers, and filmmaker information for promotional purposes.
Technical Requirements
Selected films should be available for theatrical presentation. DCP is preferred but not required. Additional delivery specifications will be provided after acceptance.
Changes and Cancellation
Surreal Films reserves the right to make changes to the event schedule, programming, or screening details when necessary.
