The International Mystery Box Festival encourages filmmakers from all over the world to display just how creative, innovative, and resourceful they're capable of being. Participants buy a mystery box from our partners at Fire Sale Boxes (https://firesaleboxes.com/products/film-festival-mystery-box), then write and shoot a short film where the contents of said mystery box are a key part of the story. We highly encourage submissions from new/emerging filmmakers as well as student and established filmmakers.

Awards & Prizes

At the end of the festival, attendees will be invited to vote via Google Form for "The Boxscars": Oscar-parody awards to celebrate our participants' achievements in various areas. Categories include but aren't limited to: Best Cinematography, Best VFX, Best Sound Design, Best Production Design, etc. All are welcome to submit their projects for however many award categories they'd like via the card in their mystery boxes.

In addition to the Boxscars, we will also have a raffle, and the proceeds will go towards the further growth and expansion of Suozznation Studios- the film studio running the festival.

Rules & Terms

All mystery boxes must be purchased from Fire Sale Boxes during the following date range (01/2026-06/2026) with a picture of your receipt submitted as proof, as well as a video of you opening the mystery box and verifying the contents of said box- which both need to be submitted via the QR code on the card in your mystery box.

All submissions must be suitable for all ages and have a max runtime of 20 minutes (including credits) to fit as many films into the festival program as possible. Generative AI use is strictly prohibited.
