The International Festival of Local Televisions Golden Beggar is the most important and the biggest annual event in European local television. It encourages high-quality programs through a competition and through workshops and lectures. From 2009 the competition is open to all filmmakers.
The main prize of the Festival has already become a prestigeous award and proof of successful and creative work, highly valued by authors and creators. Recent years have also seen a growing significance gained by the Young Author and Production Company awards. The Golden Beggar has become an award which is a kind of a hallmark of high professional standards for young authors and independent producers.

The main award to be presented at the Award Ceremony is named Golden Beggar.
WHO IS THE GOLDEN BEGGAR?
In the lore of the city of Košice is the story of a beggar, who begged for years. But he used his beggings wisely – saving them and building one of the grandest houses on the main street. The house still stands today, with a Golden Beggar statue on top.

The 31st International Festival of Local Televisions a Golden Beggar 2026 will be held in May 27 - 30, 2026. The festival will take place in various premises in Košice, Slovakia.

The deadline for submitting your films is April 30th, 2026.

We are pleased to inform you that the 31st International Festival of Local Televisions the Golden Beggar will be held from May 27 - 30, 2026. The festival is organized by the City TV Foundation.

How to enter your film/program
We encourage you to enter your films/program into competition for The Golden Beggar Award in one of the 16 categories.

We expect entries that reflect the lives and fates of people living where you live. We also welcome works that uncover serious problems of present day society, such as refugees, terrorism, corruption, blackmail, ecological matters, minority and cross-border problems, the fate of children, war conflicts and the worst disease of passed years - corona.

The deadline for films/programs to reach us in Košice is April 30th, 2026. All entry forms MUST BE COMPLETED ONLINE on www.filmfreeway.com.
Do not forget! Even if your film/program is dubbed or subtitled, you must also include an original AND an English script in electronic form !

Registration Fees

Registration fee for films in any category up to 25 minutes is 10 USD.
Registration fee for films in any category up to 55 minutes is 20 USD.

In terms of length, films/programs registered for competition should generally not exceed 55 minutes and should have been produced after January 31st, 2023.

You are requested to send electronically the following materials:
- the completed Entry Form
- a preview copy
- synopsis in English (in electronic form)!
- dialogue list both in original and English versions (in electronic form) !
- stills from the film (print quality 300 dpi) - trailer or excerpts from the film on www.filmfreeway.com.
- flyers or any printed promo material ( if any)
The material received will not be returned to the applicant, unless agreed previously with the organisers.

Please don’t forget to label your materials with the same information as on the Entry Registration Form. To ensure proper processing and judging of your entry, it is important your entry forms and film/program be received by the Festival before the deadline SApril 30th, 2026. If you anticipate any problems, please contact us immediately! The costs of transport of the accompanying materials are the responsibility of the applicants.

Awards

Winners of each category will be announced on May 30th, 2026 in the Award Ceremony. The International Jury will decide about the winner of different prizes. The Grand Award „The Golden Beggar“ (financial) will be given to a film, in any of the categories, which shows a strong journalistic content, an element of originality and clear understanding of the needs of its viewers. The Jury is also authorized to award other prizes and honorary mentions that are not financially remunerated. The Jury also has the right to decide not to give the Grand Award in any particular section

Promotion of the films
The organisers reserve the right to use film excerpts of selected films for festival promotional purposes under the following conditions:
less than 3 minutes for films up to 55 minutes,
less than 30 seconds for films up to 25 minutes,
The excerpts can be screened in the Festival movie theatres, broadcast on TV channels
promoting the Festival, on the festival’s official website, in printed promo materials or during any multimedia presentation within the duration of the Festival.
The Festival reserves the right to use program segments of up to 10 seconds in length in the festival’s official trailer.
The Festival reserves the right to use program stills in the Festival’s promotional materials, the festival catalogue, promotional flyers, posters, billboards, the festival website, multimedia presentations.

Important!
The films will be a part of the festival archive.
The City TV Foundation reserves the right to gratuitous screening of the films awarded in 2024 as a part of the IFoLT 2026 program. The City TV Foundation would like to provide free access to the films for cultural events and the public connected with the IFFGB.

In case of the screening of said films at events other than the Festival events, screening rights are subject to a separate contract concluded with the owner of the rights.
