Dear Filmmakers,

you are welcome to submit your movie to the 10th Edition of the Greenmotions Filmfestival in Freiburg, Germany, from November 6th-10th. We are looking forward to reviewing your film!

Greenmotions inspires and encourages people to take active participation in the transition towards a regenerative culture in which humanity harmonizes with the rest of the natural world. For a lot of us there seems to be a gap between this vision and the reality of our daily lives. And that’s where your films come in.
We screen solution-oriented, constructive and empowering films dealing with the environment, sustainability and beyond. The festival is open to films of all production techniques, including animation, documentary, drama, experimental or artistic films and hybrid work from low to high budgets.

We are looking for films for our four different categories:
Short Film
Short Film for Children
Feature Film
Special Topic

The first three categories focus on the general environmental and sustainability themes.

The fourth category, Special Topic, for 2024 is: “United in Change – Striving for a Just Transition”.
The term Just Transition recognises the imbalanced and disjointed impacts of the transition away from fossil fuel dependences and it seeks to ensure that no one is left behind in the process. It calls upon inclusive dialogues, reflecting on historical responsibility for climate change and focusing on the needs, priorities and realities of those affected the most. The term is now used in local, national and international political and legal discourses. Significantly, it has also become a focal point of climate and labour rights activism.
We are looking forward to receiving films that are shedding light on the fair ways to make our societies transition towards a sustainable future.

Positive, solution-oriented films about sustainability, environment and beyond
Film submission can also be registered on our website www.greenmotions-filmfestival.de.
-Short films: up to 20 minutes
-Long feature movies : 20–120 minutes
-Special topic films: up to 120 minutes
- we accept positive solution-oriented films about sustainability, environment and beyond
- the deadline for submissions is the 15.04.2024
- We only accept films completed from 2022 to 2024. The films which are completed before 31st December 2021 will be rejected immediately.
- Films of a running time of 20 minutes or less, including credits, can be submitted for the short film competition, unless they fit to the special topic of the year.
- Films of a running time of 30 minutes or less, including credits, for a a young audience (5 to 12 years old) can be submitted for the Kid’s short film competition.
- Films with a running time of 20 to 120 minutes, including credits, can be submitted for the Feature Film Selection, unless they fit to the Special Topic of the year
- Films submitted for the Special Topic of the Year - “United in Change – Striving for a Just Transition”- can have a running time of up to 120 minutes.
- we accept "work in progress"
- English or German subtitles are required if the film language is any other than English or German. Transcripts (in German and/ or English) are appreciated. Films for children need to be either in German or with no dialogue.

    Greenmotions is a great festival! The post-screening Q+A was packed full with thoughtful questions and fascinating conversations that continued in the lobby afterwards. The dedicated festival team walks the talk on sustainability and I was honored to be a part of their efforts to ignite action. An additional treat is the unique venue along with Freiburg, a beautiful city that breathes sustainability. I highly recommend this festival.
