Ru-mòre — Cinema and Audiovisual Experimentation Festival

Ru-mòre – Cinema and Audiovisual Experimentation Festival is a widespread festival: in its ninth edition, from April 14 to 18, 2027, it takes over 𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗲'𝘀 𝗦𝗮𝗻 𝗟𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘇𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁 turning 𝗖𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗺𝗮 𝗧𝗶𝗯𝘂𝗿 and public spaces across the neighbourhood into a single living stage for author-driven cinema and audiovisual experimentation.

𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗥𝗧 𝗙𝗜𝗟𝗠 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗣𝗘𝗧𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡

We accept submissions in the following categories:

🏆 Italian Short — under 20 minutes, of any genre and theme
🏆 International Short — under 20 minutes, of any genre and theme
🏆 Short Documentaries — under 20 minutes, both Italian and international
🏆 Animation Short — under 20 minutes, both Italian and international

Dedicated to works distributed after June 1, 2025. All films, including Italian ones, must have English subtitles, under penalty of ineligibility. A maximum of two works per author may be submitted. Selected filmmakers will be screened in April 2027 in Rome and invited to take part in our community.

𝗝𝘂𝗿𝘆

The Festival Jury will consist of national and international experts in film, theatre, literature, journalism, and the arts. Their decisions are final and unappealable. The Jury may, at its sole discretion, award special mentions in all categories. Jury members will be announced on the Festival's website and social media pages before the event. A total of 5 jurors will be assigned to the different categories.

𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗢𝗙 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗣𝗘𝗧𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗦𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡

𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝘇𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗲 – Out of Competition

Dedicated to works with a runtime between 20 and 40 minutes, distributed after June 1, 2025. This section provides a curated space for medium-length films that do not fall within the competitive categories but still reflect the festival's vision for innovation and experimentation. All works, including Italian ones, must have English subtitles, under penalty of ineligibility. A maximum of two works per author may be submitted.

Frequenze Medie — from 20 to 40 minutes, both Italian and international

Selected works in this section will receive a screening fee of €50.00 per work.

𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗔𝗦

Ru-mòre, in collaboration with Read My Script, also hosts a script competition for short films and first/second feature films (fiction, documentary or animation, no genre restriction) open to both Italian and international screenwriters.

We will accept submissions in the following categories:

✍️ National Short Films
✍️ National Feature Films
✍️ International Short Films
✍️ International Feature Films

Materials for national projects must be in Italian; for international projects, in English. We will select 4 finalists for each category.

Participants must submit one single PDF file (in the same language as the application) including, in the following order:

- A logline (max 500 characters)
- A treatment (max 2 pages for shorts, max 5 pages for features)
- Three scripted scenes

If selected, the submitter will be contacted regarding the technical specifications and additional materials, including the complete screenplay in English.

𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺

Authors of international projects (both short and feature categories) will have access to 2 free online workshops:

- Pitching Techniques, including direct meetings with tutors
- Pitch deck structure and revision

For authors of selected national projects (both short and feature categories), the following is provided:

- Pitching Techniques workshop, with online meetings with tutors
- Live pitch training with direct meetings with tutors
- Pitch deck structure and revision
- Presentation of projects at a pitch forum before an audience of producers, broadcasters and industry professionals during the Festival's Industry Corner in Rome

Participation is mandatory for selected projects; otherwise, selection will be withdrawn.

𝗝𝘂𝗿𝘆

The Call for Ideas Jury will consist of experts appointed by Read My Script. Those involved in the submitted projects are excluded. Their decisions are final. Jury names will be announced on the Festival website and social media pages prior to the event.

𝗜𝗠𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗬

Ru-mòre 2027 features a section fully dedicated to immersive media and creative XR works, divided into two parts:

VR Competition: five linear VR video works (max 30 minutes) by national and international creators are selected.

XR Showcase: immersive projects presented out of competition by invitation only. Eligible formats include linear VR experiences, videos and XR works (3DOF and 6DOF), installations and virtual worlds of any length.

Eligibility VR Competition: linear VR video works produced after 01/01/2025, max 30 minutes runtime, in English or with English subtitles. Each author may submit a maximum of two works.

The initiative takes place in the San Lorenzo district and includes immersive presentations, talks, and dedicated events.

𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗨𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗬

Focus LCC, Bulgaria: a curated professional platform connecting Bulgarian feature film projects in development with Italian producers, broadcasters, and key industry professionals, while also engaging a selected group of international industry professionals.

Taking place during Ru-mòre Industry Days, 15–18 April 2027 in Rome. The platform fosters exchange, collaboration, and co-production opportunities. Participation is free of charge. Only applications submitted through our website will be considered.
