  • We are thankful to the festival to have selected our movies. Unfortunately, even with a welcoming reception committee and a networking initiative planned after the screening, the YES! Festival had major shortcomings :

-There was confusion across the communication channels before the event. The social medias of the festival, the emails they sent and even the tickets we purchased had different screening times.

-The festival asks everyone to buy their ticket, even for the filmmakers that are part of the festival. For all the festivals we've known, there's at least one ticket given to the director of a chosen movie as a courtesy since they contribute to the festival with their movie.

-Also, the festival makes us sit through a 3+ hours screening with authorization given to the public to come and go as they please from the screening room. Because of those distractions, the viewing experience was unpleasant. Please consider dividing the screening into shorter blocks of films, with breaks in between.

-We were surprised to find the actress that won the award for best actress part of the jury of the festival.

-The festival being held in Quebec, it would have been thoughtful to use both french and english languages at the event.

We are very disappointed with our first experience with the festival and sincerely wish that the YES! Festival can make adjustments for the following years.

    Response from festival:

Thank you for your feedback. Each year we try to improve taking feedback witha grain of salt. It is not easy to please 100%. This years event we took feedback by making three separate screenings. People needing to use the washroom or leave for any number of reason is out of our control.

We are sorry the event is not bilingual, and unfortunately, in past events, more than 80 % percent of complimentary ticket holders decide not to show, so by sharing a 50% off incentive we hoped to gain better attendance.

There is only so much effective communication we can do through filmfreeway and tried to do so with updates about programming.

This festival was produced and funded by one individual for 9 years, and so it was the first time we asked everyone to help contribute towards the event, and we were upfront about it.

Once again, thank you for your feedback.

I highly recommend attending the Canada's Yes! Let's Make a Movie Film Festival, founded by Danny MAlin in Montreal. The choice of unique, nail-biting, edge of seat horror films was impressive. There was a fabulous turnout of local film talent and they provided a wonderful opportunity to network on the red carpet!
