On the behalf of the 3rd Annual Cannabis Film Festival, I invite you to join us at the historic Roxie Theatre in heart of thriving Mission District of San Francisco on April 26-27, 2017 for our SF premiere. The Cannabis Film Festival’s goal is to screen contemporary documentaries, short films and features dealing with the changing landscape and rising acceptance of cannabis and hemp in our society. By offering a variety of films, we can better accommodate the filmgoers’ tastes with a bevy of topics interpreted by our artists’ visions.
The Cannabis Film Festival (TCFF) is celebrating its third consecutive year of bringing together filmmakers, producers, actors, documentary artists, entrepreneurs, vendors, sponsors, and our community to a single forum honoring cinematic excellence in presenting the freshest films highlighting the growth of cannabis and hemp today.
The TCFF presents films from new and established international and domestic filmmakers honoring the heroic stories such as the parents who fight for medication for their children and the worldwide struggle for freedom and liberty of the plant. Last year’s festival screened feature films that incorporate cannabis not as its primary focus, but as incidental part of the drama or comedy’s storyline creating a bigger picture than your average “stoner’ movie. Our films display the courage and selflessness of the men and women who may risk everything for what they believe in.
The Cannabis Film Festival is open to filmmakers of every experience level, from first-timers to veteran directors and producers.
For the last two year, the festival has screened over 25 features, documentaries and shorts in Garberville, California. Audiences have had the opportunity to view films and then join in discussions with the filmmakers furthering the interchange of what the future cannabis landscape may appear according to our artists and community.

Prizes are awarded to winners in two categories: Best of The Festival and the People’s Choice.

Purpose: The purpose of the Cannabis Film Festival is to increase public awareness of all aspects of the cannabis industry thru film. Film submissions should include content that supports this purpose.

The following is an explanation of the Rules and Regulations governing the submission of a film (hereafter called the “Film”) to the Cannabis Film Festival (hereafter referred to as the “Festival”) for consideration in 2017. By agreeing to the Terms and Conditions found on the Festival Submission Form the person submitting the Film (hereafter call the “Applicant”) acknowledges that he or she has obtained consent from any and all owners, creators, writers, Producers and/or other authorized representatives of the Film (hereafter call the “Film’s Owners”) whose consent is required to submit the film to the Festival and has read and understood the submission Rules and Regulations set forth below.

General Rules for Submitting a Film to the Cannabis Film Festival:

Short Films – run time, including credits, does not exceed 40 minutes.

Feature Film – run time, including credits, exceeds 40 minutes.

Documentary – may be considered either as a Short Film or Feature Film based on run time as described above. Narrative must be derived from nonfiction and does not feature actors.

1. Submissions for a Feature Film or Documentary may be a work-in-progress form; however, works that are not final cuts must be clearly marked “Work in Progress (WIP)” or “Rough Cut” and include an explanation of what will change and/or is missing (i.e. temporary sounds, missing animation, Avid output, etc.). Due to the volume of submissions, only one replacement version (i.e. final cut) will be accepted and must be received by March 31, 2017. The Festival is under no obligation to review final cuts after the review of the initial submission. Due to the length, Short Films or Documentaries are not eligible for submission as a work-in-progress
2. Non-English language Films must have English subtitles at the time of submission. Dialogue lists will not be accepted.

3. Materials: Two DVD copies of the Film formatted Region 1 (North America) along with your Submission Form. Both DVD’s must be “labeled” with the Film’s title, running time, format and Applicant’s name. DVD’s must be able to be viewed in their entirety on a standard consumer DVD player. Do not use adhesive labels or tape that may interfere with ability to play the DVD, a permanent marker is typically the best way to “label” your submission. DCP and Blu-ray discs are accepted at this time. Entry materials will not be returned and may be stored for the Festival’s archives.
4. Multiple Films from the same Applicant are allowed. Each Film requires its own Submission Form, submission fee and DVD as explained above.
5. It is the sole responsibility of the Applicant to secure authorization and permission from the Owner(s) of any and all trademarked content or materials included within the submitted Film. The Festival expressly disavows any responsibility for, and will not be held responsible for, any unauthorized inclusion of any trademarked content or materials within or relating to the submitted Film.
6. The Festival reserves the right to disqualify, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected, any Film that has not met any of the criteria outlined in these Rules and Regulations.
7. The Applicant is solely responsible for the shipping of all submissions. If a submission is damaged upon receipt the Festival will make a reasonable attempt to contact the Applicant for a replacement. All replacements must be received by March 31, 2017 to remain eligible.
8. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Applicants under 18 may be considered with written permission from your parent or legal guardian before public viewing of your film.
9. The Festival will make a reasonable attempt to notify Applicants the first week of April 2017 via email with status of your film. It is the sole responsibility of the Applicant to provide accurate and current contact information on your Submission Form.
