Welcome to a weekend of workshops and screenings of family-friendly films, both professionally and student-made, hailing from countries that span the globe!

Filmmakers Collaborative created the BIKFF in 2013 with a goal of showing kids that making a film can be a powerful way to tell a story, express your emotions, state a point of view and (more importantly) to have fun!

By screening amazing student-made films from around the world while at the same time offering these young filmmakers a look at professionally-made films created just for them, we are enabling the next generation of filmmakers to realize the power and potential of media.

The young filmmakers that participate in FC Academy, our after-school and summer filmmaking program, are given center stage at special blocks throughout the weekend, as we screen the short films that they have created in front of their family and friends.

Combine all that with hands-on workshops on filmmaking and stop-motion animation meetups and you are in for an event that families of Greater Boston will be enjoying for years to come!

The Peggy Charren Award for Excellence ( filmmakers of all ages)

Rules & Terms

All films must be family friendly. Any films containing inappropriate language will not be screened.

Over 90% of the films screened will be short films (20 minutes and under). The feature film category (films over 30 minutes) will be a highly competitive category, so please use that to your discretion when submitting your work.

Awards given in the "Student Film" categories will be for those filmmakers in middle or high school at the time of production.

    I really loved this festival. The coordinators were friendly and welcoming, and the films, many of them made by kids, were thoughtfully curated. The Mosesian Center for the Arts in Watertown seemed like an ideal venue for this event, just the right size for a weekend festival. Since it was a small gathering it was easy to meet and chat with other filmmakers. It was encouraging to see so many young filmmakers in attendance, some who had travelled from NY, and to see children in the audiences. I applaud the Filmmakers Collaborative for offering young people filmmaking programs through their FC Academy and for putting on this festival showcasing the best of the best. Thank you for including my animated short film.

    BIKFF is a mouthful of a title and worth every syllable! It's a total pleasure to be part of a festival that works hard to bring films to an audience that too often gets overlooked -- kids. Laura Azavedo and her dedicated team foster a warm atmosphere and are especially supportive of their often quite young filmmakers. The festival is very well organized, communication is clear and helpful, the venue is wonderful, and the whole vibe of the festival is fun, playful and entertaining! Definitely a rewarding experience on every level.
