Bunker broken in the shadow of a fallen tree

The film is composed of six tableaux announced by the words of the title. They develop in parallel with the making of a series of ink and pigment paintings by Stefania Kenley. She traces lines by fine tree roots, establishing horizons and divisions in the landscape they traverse. The trees are felled, struck by lightning, or dried by drought. Whitened by the sea, or covered in algae or ropes, they hint to the story of their demise., The trees stand witness to war, displacement, ecological imbalance, less able to offer shelter, comfort, fruit or blossom. The ruins of the bunker remind of the hubris of war

Director Statement

Looking at our world through trees that have been hurt or destroyed, echoing the victims of war, drought and natural disasters. The images are composed by juxtaposing different angles of view, but above all by following the creation of a series of paintings in Indian ink and pigment dissolved in water through the montage. Images taken in diverse and contrasting landscapes are transformed by light and colour to encounter the paintings, their new horizons.

Note: This film continues as a diptych the film made in parallel: MONTAGE - Experiment / Enthusiasm
