Dream a little Cream

Dream a little Cream
Rock'n'roll hits Frankfurt

AVAILABLE WITH SUBTITLES IN ENGLISH!

Cream Music Instruments, originally founded in 1904 by Heinrich Hummel as Musikhaus Heinrich Hummel at Taunusstrasse 24 in Frankfurt am Main, has developed into a place-to-be in the music scene over the decades. Babette Hummel and daughters Irene and Louise took over the business, which was known for a long time under the name Musikhaus B. Hummel before being renamed Cream Music Instruments in the early 1970s. Today, the business is run by the fourth generation, Bernhard and Robert Hahn, as well as their cousins Stefan and Martin Hahn, descendants of the founding family.

The dream-fulfillers are leaving the Bahnhofsviertel for Sachsenhausen in 2018. The shop at the new address at Seehofstrasse 6 is not dissimilar in layout to the old one, only it is larger. "We want to take our entire shop front with us, including the shelves, the almost 100-year-old cash register, the counter, the whole atmosphere, this patina," says Bernhard Hahn, leaving no doubt that tradition is important to the family. "You come into the shop and as a guest you have the feeling you are in the old Cream. That's what it's all about."

The film sheds light on how Cream Music became a cultural center for musicians. The many prominent customers include: Rock'n'Roller Jeff Beck, Gary Moore, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, Andy Summers (The Police), Billy Idol, Clueso, Ali Neander (Rodgau Monotones), Michael Sagmeister, Albert Mangelsdorff, Emil Mangelsdorff, Markus Marl (Deutsche Welle Ich will Spaß), Jürgen Zöller (BAP), David Kirby (Adam Hall), Rory Gallagher, who visited the shop during a stay in Frankfurt's Bahnhofsviertel, Elvis Presley, who bought a guitar from Cream Music while stationed in Friedberg and Bad Nauheim.

A special highlight in the film is the portrayal of great-grandmother Babette and her daughters Irene and Louise, who sold plucked instruments for many years, but also accordions and recorders and had a significant influence on the development of the business. Their devotion to music and their expertise are symbols of the tradition that still characterizes the business today.

"Cream Music is more than a music store - it is a place that has inspired the music world for generations. With 'Dream a little Cream' I want to capture the extraordinary history and significance of this store" (Jochen Hasmanis)
