Treat

Official music video for Treat by Disconnectica. Uses something called the Droste effect, used here to make objects spiral infinitely into themselves. Here, looking down the bell of a trombone becomes an endless golden spiral, as various treats swirl inexorably inward towards the glutinous crooner.

The song has been played on radio including 3RRR in Australia and Big Satsuma Radio in the UK.

Director Biography - Robert Charles Webb

Robert Webb creates a diverse range of alternative music along with trippy music videos to match. A programmer by trade, he also writes software to create psychedelic effects in his videos, thus bringing together several big interests: music, film and software.

Robert previously made short Super 8 films. He entered the White Gloves Film Festival six times between 1996 and 2000, where film-makers had 48 hours to shoot their film, shot in sequence, and unseen even by the film-maker until the festival. All six made it into their best-of screenings. He was also accepted into the Metro Super 8 Film Festival in 1997.

Rob moved onto other projects, but returned to making music around 2018, which soon led him back to film-making in the form of music videos.

Director Statement

I wrote a kaleidoscope app for mobile devices a while ago. I recently added something called the Droste effect to it, used to make an image spiral in on itself. I realised that this would be perfect for the video for my track Treat, which features trombone. Looking down the bell of a trombone works well with this effect, turning it into an infinite spiral. With my face superimposed in the middle (distorted using one of my other effects), I could have an endless stream of "treats" spiralling in towards me. The rich gold colour of the trombone adding to the opulence.

In other sections I added other distorted musical instruments in the background. A spiralling keyboard. A kaleidoscope of strings. It's all adding to the fun of this playful yet somewhat sinister track.
