Livia Maria Sîrbu is a film director and producer. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in film directing, and a master's degree in film production and documentary film.
She has directed over 9 short films, one of which, The Day That Never Comes, was screened and awarded at several international festivals and earned her a nomination for the Gopo Awards in 2024.
At the same time, The Day That Never Comes is the most distributed Romanian short film on television channels (over 30) in Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
Livia has participated in several development programs in Europe, including Wos Fabrique (within War on Screen Film Festival) in France, Talent Lab at TIFF, Co-production Meeting at D'A - Festival Cinema Barcelona. Additionally, she participated in several creative writing workshops, where she developed an affinity for the hybrid film area, wanting to expand her horizons by combining fiction with documentary. Also, she was a member of the Young Jury at Concorto Film Festival in 2024.
Currently, as a director, she is developing two projects: a short film set in the 1950s in Bucharest and her first feature film that will talk about the world of female producers in Eastern Europe.
As a producer, she produced two feature-length documentaries, in addition to over 60 other short films. One of the two feature-length documentaries, Family Weekend, was awarded a Special Mention by the Romanian Days Jury at TIFF (Transilvania International Film Festival) last summer. Currently, besides the projects as a director, she has two documentaries in post-production and is in development with a documentary series and 3 fictions, one of which is a Romanian-French co-production. Since this year, Livia has also been a programmer in the DocShort section at the international documentary film festival, Astra Film Festival.
