Director Biography - Josephine Kabahuma

Josephine Kabahuma is a multi-award-winning Ugandan Actress, Writer, Producer and Director. She possesses other skills like Production Design, Costume Design and Music Composition among others.

She is also a co-founder and Creative Writer at Kyooto (Kyooto Media Group), a registered multifaceted full-service entertainment and media production company based in Kampala, Uganda.

She has worked as a Director, Writer, Producer, Actress, Production Designer and Costume Designer on films like; MANIA (2022), Your Turn (2022), KYADDALA Season Two (2022), Catch Out (2021), KEMI (2020), Judas Kiss (2019), Equanimity (2019), Esteem (2019), Demented (2019) and Fidelity (2019) among others that have earned over 30 international nominations and over 10 international awards from film festivals and film awarding platforms from all-over the world

Since early childhood, she dreamt of telling stories that would impact people’s lives and just like anyone else, she didn’t know how to begin, nor did she have the courage. While growing up, she experienced a lot of hardships which she thought young people would love to learn from. Most of her stories are based on true events. She believes there is no shame in mistakes as long as we learn from them and be better. Young people go through so much in life and since our experiences are almost similar as long as we stay alive, we shall overcome any kind of
hardship. Growing up is difficult, but we grow up either way.

Director Statement

Young adults: that is boys and girls who are sexually active suffer from various sexually transmitted infections and sometimes without knowing. Many young people fear pregnancy and HIV/AIDs but forget other STIs that could affect their reproductive health and cause problems like infertility mostly among women. I chose this story to put my focus on infections and how dangerous they are thus youths should take them seriously. I want to warn young people out there through Joy and Steven and I would like to emphasize the fact that they should get checked. Through the doctor, people will understand how various infections spread and how they can be managed.
