For Henry Thong, visual storytelling has always been a passion. Having channelled this love since childhood through drawing and visual art, it has evolved and grown until today, with Henry now sating his appetite for visual storytelling behind the camera.
At age 20, Henry has already established a career for himself as a filmmaker, having won multiple awards at film festivals in Adelaide, Melbourne, the Gold Coast, Portland, San Francisco and New York. His films have been screened at the Melbourne International Film Festival and the St Kilda Film Festival, and he has directed and crewed on short films, documentaries, music videos and commercials for 20th Century Fox, celebrity chef Adam Liaw, Silver Needle Hospitality, and TEDx Adelaide.
However, despite the success he has experienced at such a young age, Henry understands that he would not be where he is today without the guidance he has received from the mentors he has met on his journey. Under the guidance of Don Hahn, Tom DeSanto, Jane Intini, Jon Palanuk, and, most noteworthy of all, Sheshi Ngige – who Henry worked with to co-produce his latest film Content Censored – Henry has been able to pursue his dreams in film and media.
Henry has just completed work on his latest production, Content Censored, a short documentary investigating free speech and censorship against the backdrop of the Sony and Charlie Hebdo attacks. The production of this film saw him travelling between Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Los Angeles and New York City, and working closely with close friends Sheshi Ngige and Josh Warry. Henry looks forward to releasing Content Censored and optimistically anticipates what the future will bring.
