Mexico City native, living and working in New York City.
Christian Del Rio Solorzano is a Mexican filmmaker who grew up between Mexico and the US. After graduating with degrees in Art and Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis, Chris moved to Los Angeles and worked in the Film and TV industry as an assistant editor, production and post coordinator, as well as camera assistant, before moving to New York City. Chris is now enrolled as an MFA student at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she is producing short form narrative projects as a writer and director, as well as developing her skills as a Director of Photography.
Since 2017, Chris has written and directed six short films, earning official selections at international film festivals, including the Academy Award qualifying St. Louis International Film Festival, and most recently winning the Audience Award at SENE Film Fest in Rhode Island. With a focus on realism and an occasional jolt of fantasy, her films follow everyday characters navigating rich cinematic worlds.
As a female director involved in the Latinx film community, she was invited to join the Chicana Director’s Initiative, an organization created to highlight the work of Latinx female-identifying Directors and Cinematographers. Chris hopes to continue developing film projects that are centered around female, Latinx and bilingual characters.
