Director Biography - Eneko Muruzabal Elezcano

Bilbao, 1977. In 2023, his screenplay Planetagatik won the Oihua! contest, promoted by the San Sebastián Horror and Fantasy Film Week. Premiering in 2024, the short film opened the Film Week and has since built a remarkable international career, with over 40 selections at festivals worldwide. It has been chosen for Goya Awards qualifying festivals (Málaga Festival, FICX Gijón, ZINEBI Bilbao, Aguilar de Campoo) and festivals within the Méliès network (Fantaspoa Brazil, Abertoir Horror Festival, San Sebastián Film Week, FANT Bilbao). Notable awards include Best Short Film at Euskal Zine Bilera (Lekeitio, Spain), Best International Short Film at Festiver (Barichara, Colombia), and the Roddenberry Audience Choice Award at the Sci-On Film Festival (Nevada, USA).

In 2022, he made his debut with Polita, a short film developed from a script written during a course taught by Michel Gaztambide at Larrotxene Bideo (Donostia). Selected for more than 20 national and international festivals, Polita won the Best Short Film award at the Distopia Festival (Murcia) and received a special mention at the Mexico City International Animal Film Festival.

He currently resides in Donostia, where he combines his roles as director and screenwriter with his work as an environmental consultant at the company Bilibin. He advises companies across various sectors on reducing their environmental impact and offers workshops on applied sustainability in filmmaking, both during production and the development phase.

Estrenado en 2024, el corto inauguró la Semana y ha consolidado una destacada trayectoria internacional, con más de 40 selecciones en festivales de todo el mundo. Ha sido seleccionado en festivales calificadores para los Premios Goya (Festival de Málaga, FICX Gijón, ZINEBI Bilbao, Aguilar de Campoo) y en festivales integrados en la red Méliès (Fantaspoa Brasil, Abertoir Horror Festival, Semana de San Sebastián, FANT Bilbao). Actualmente reside en Donostia, donde combina su faceta de director y guionista con su trabajo como consultor medioambiental en la empresa Bilibin. Asesora a empresas de diversos sectores en la reducción del impacto ambiental y ofrece talleres sobre sostenibilidad aplicada al cine, tanto en rodaje como en fase de desarrollo.

"Buelta eta buelta" was born from a simple question: what if the creatures we consume had a voice? The natural world is often a silent backdrop in our lives, a source of resources we rarely consider beyond their utility.

This short film, shot in Basque with a smartphone and no budget, blends comedy, fantasy, and horror to subvert that perspective. By giving a voice to an albacore fish (a cultured and well-traveled being) the film constructs a universe where the fish is the protagonist of its own story. A key aspect is that its narrative isn't pure fiction; the dialogue about its migration from Bermuda, through the Azores, and to the Bay of Biscay is based on the species' real-life cycle.

My intention was to create a piece that, with absurd humor and ingenuity, offers a subtle critique of our relationship with nature. It's a reminder that even in the most mundane settings, the stories and lives we ignore can be the most fascinating. "Buelta eta buelta" is a dark tale about the food chain, where the predator becomes the prey and the fish becomes the fisherman, making you think twice before ordering your next meal.

"Buelta eta buelta" nació de una pregunta simple: ¿qué pasaría si las criaturas que consumimos tuvieran una voz? El mundo natural es a menudo un telón de fondo silencioso en nuestras vidas, una fuente de recursos que rara vez consideramos más allá de su utilidad.

Este cortometraje, rodado en euskera con un smartphone y sin presupuesto, mezcla comedia, fantasía y terror para subvertir esa perspectiva. Al dar voz a un bonito del norte, un ser culto y viajero, la película construye un universo donde el pez es el protagonista de su propia historia. Un aspecto clave es que su relato no es pura ficción; el diálogo sobre su migración de las Bermudas, pasando por las Azores, hasta el Golfo de Vizcaya, se basa en el ciclo de vida real de la especie.

Mi intención fue crear una pieza que, con un humor absurdo e ingenio, hiciera una crítica sutil a nuestra relación con la naturaleza. Es un recordatorio de que, incluso en los escenarios más cotidianos, las historias y las vidas que ignoramos pueden ser las más fascinantes. Un cuento oscuro sobre la cadena alimentaria, donde el depredador se convierte en presa y el pescado en pescador, lo que te hará pensártelo dos veces antes de pedir tu próximo plato de pescado.
