b.longing

where do we belong; what do we long for?

b.longing is a short poetic home video/documentary that explores the question of belonging from within our neo-colonial, imperialist context. Questions of race, nationality, queerness, work, place and time are explored through a visual language rooted in frank discussions between loved ones. In the end, it's this exact familial dynamic—and the process of making the movie itself—that begins to answer these questions.

Director Biography - Chrussy Byrd

Chrussy 'mysteryy' Byrd is a queer filmmaker from Winnipeg, MB, with over 16 years of industry experience and a lifelong background in DIY filmmaking. Their experience ranges from independently made, low- or no-budget films to unionized, big-budget productions, with roles including director, writer, editor, camera operator, actor, locations scout, assistant locations manager, and production office assistant.

Creatively, Chrussy is drawn to experimental and hybrid forms of storytelling that blend mediums and sources, balance planning with spontaneity, and use montage as a tool for cultural and socioeconomic critique. As a European settler and queer person, their work often explores themes of colonialism, race, gender, sexuality, and relationships. Professionally, they are committed to supporting the growing presence of queer and Indigenous stories in film and media production.
