Director Statement

Bazooka came to life out of a desire to create a short narrative to discuss the rough reality faced by members of the LGBTQIAP+ community in Brazil. In its surreal approach, Bazooka portrays love and union as non-weaponry resistance devices. The goal of the film is to expose some of the exclusionary and discriminatory speeches in our contemporary society provoking a massive diaspora of the queer community. The Alien's abductions portrayals symbolize the disappearance of the affected population. Through the psychological horror genre lenses, the film explores the complexities of humanity and its deep feelings of loss, grief, love, and lack of affection. The film asks symbolic questions about the exclusion of queer communities: why only the queer folks are being taken away? What can be done to stop this reality? What are ways of replacing the grieving emotional and physical spaces left empty? Bazooka invites viewers to reflect on the healing process from the lack of affection.
