Amor en toda la cara (Love in your Face)
Face Love is a groundbreaking bilingual romantic comedy produced in a parallel production one in English (Face Love) and one in Spanish (Amor en toda la cara). Filmed across Los Angeles, Madrid, London, and Tijuana, the feature captures the global absurdity of love, distance, and connection in the digital age.
The story follows Daniel, a Brit-Spaniard living in L.A., who travels to Madrid to renew his visa—just as a global pandemic shuts down borders. Stuck 5,900 miles away from his new girlfriend, Ana (Mexican-American), he must navigate bureaucracy, culture shock, and long-distance heartbreak as he scrambles to get back to her… one glitchy video call at a time.
Inspired by the award-winning short Hold for Applause (27 awards, 100+ festivals, acquired by Canal+ France, Movistar Plus Spain, and Amazon Prime US), Face Love builds on that international success with bold cinematic storytelling and heartfelt humor. Shot entirely as simulated video calls, this unique feature turns screens into stages and glitches into emotional landscapes blending comedy, romance, and tech in ways both timely and timeless.
The film is written, directed, and performed by Gerald Fillmore (actor and creator known for the hit Netflix series Death Inc.). With a distinct blend of international sensibility and comic insight, Face Love marks Fillmore’s feature debut as a director.

In March 2020, I traveled with my family from Los Angeles to Madrid for work. When the pandemic began, we suddenly found ourselves stranded there, just like the protagonist of our story. During lockdown, my friend Vanessa, our lead actress, asked me to write a scene for an audition in LA. That scene became Hold for Applause, a short film that was selected in more than one hundred festivals worldwide and received 27 awards. Four years later, that short has grown into this movie: Face Love.
A fast-paced romantic comedy in the middle of a global crisis, told entirely through video calls, with an amazing cast, filmed in bilingual parallel production across four countries, and shot on a smartphone. The film explores, with humor, what makes us human versus social beings: the technology that connects and distances us, and the way our generation relates to one another. In a world where it can feel as if we consume relationships and binge people like a series, a relationship lived through a screen in a dystopian reality can sometimes feel more real than anything else.
