Director Biography - Jith Paul

Jith Paul is a graduate of the television broadcasting program at Algonquin College. He is a producer, director, cinematographer and editor of several award-winning short films and documentaries. His directorial debut, Algebra, a short film about a painter grappling with the loss of his eyesight won the Best Technical Quality award at the Digi60 Filmmaker's Festival and was an official selection at the Toronto Independent Film Festival this year. Jith is member of the board of directors of SAW Video, an Associate Member in the Canadian Cinema Editors (CCE) professional association and is a nominee for the 2013 Premier's Award.

Director Statement

Algebra is a poetic film about a painter who is grappling with the loss of his eyesight. Six months before I directed this short film I had emergency surgery to prevent a retinal detachment and experienced temporary blindness so I connected with the emotions Vincent the main character must have been going through. This was my narrative directorial debut.
