Director Statement

With A Cast of Shade, I sought to examine a pervasive and often overlooked issue: the cyclical nature of men's mental health struggles and societal conditioning. This film portrays The Newborn, a symbol of innocence and potential, as he encounters The Passersby—representing the imprints of pain and judgment left by those we encounter.

The story reflects the harsh reality that society often teaches men to mask vulnerability with anger, perpetuating the very abuse they have endured. Through raw, visual storytelling and symbolic characters, the film delves into how trauma shapes us and how confronting these manifestations can break cycles of pain.

My hope is that A Cast of Shade will spark conversations about the unspoken pressures men face and the urgent need for compassion, understanding, and healing in a world that too often silences them.
