Across Dallas, the Bay Area, and New York City, eleven Blackqueer folks engage in layered conversations and candid everyday moments of joy, melancholy, introspection, euphoria, loneliness, and community-in-active-formation. Their complex minds revel in the journey of becoming Blackqueer and exploring their endless coming of age.
As an experimental documentary, a_blurred_fluxx_00.avi, delves deep into the nuance of today's Blackqueer youth. This dynamic and non-linear supercut provides a carefully crafted audiovisual space for the multiplicity of Blackqueer self-expressions. With a distinct yet nostalgic direction, editing style, and sound design embedded in low-resolution, a_blurred_fluxx_00.avi is a refreshing, necessary, and expansive film beyond time.

Osadolor is a visual maker, creative researcher, and sound designer who finds the most inspiration in the multiplicity of himself that is not so clearly defined or categorizable. Their experiences, [physical, social, and cultural] environments, and media consumption have shaped and continue to shape her nuanced thoughts on life as a Nigerian American born and raised in Dallas. Moments of discovery, reflection, introspection, and awareness of their positioning in this world influence his nostalgic Lo-Fi and D-I-Y videos, experimental sonic design, expressive photography, mixed media presentations of digital manipulations, texturized designs, and intricate yet fluid drawings. Her multidisciplinary art practice and media research expand their nuanced perspective on Blackqueerness as a young Nigerian from Texas. In his globally charting podcast, 'a coming of age, but irl,' Osadolor blurs introspection and conversation through uniquely crafted sonic experiences.
a_blurred_fluxx_00.avi basks in the Blackqueer art of unraveling the beauties within our souls, the horrors around us, and the potential of our humanity. The joy I feel when my thoughts flow at the care of loving friends who are in the process of doing the same is unmatched. Our jumbled words, complex minds, full hearts, and embodied wisdom illuminate a sonic cacophony and visual display of growing intimacy, vulnerability, and closeness. These active memories and community nourishment inspired the audiovisual interplay in a_blurred_fluxx_00.avi.
The editing style of a_blurred_fluxx_00.avi complicates the viewer's understanding of what they see and hear, granting a sense of opacity to the Blackqueer folks featured in the film. Inspired by early Nollywood cinematic productions and Blackqueer DJ mixes, a_blurred_fluxx_00.avi is rooted in the abstraction of everyday life. Sonic collages of field recordings, loose, muffled, and fleeting fragments of conversations, personal reflections, voicemails, and a genre-bending score make the soundscape of this film a vast limbo that emulates the stitched flow of emotions, topics, and settings. With Blackqueerness in an ever-looming flux, the continuously disruptive edit of scenes, conversations, and tones makes room for Blackqueer folks' individual yet interconnected journeys to hint towards utopian possibilities beyond the confines of singular chronology, linear storytelling, and normative standards of existing.
This short film is a testament to the potential of Lo-Fi and D-I-Y aesthetics as Afropresentist portals reveling in the messy journey of becoming Blackqueer. Implementing the Lo-Fi and D-I-Y techniques that made me fall in love with filmmaking and sound design is something I will always cherish. I used what I had in my limited reach to make strides toward where I wanted to be, even if that prophetic vision was as blurry as the moments that drove them. The depths and fluidity of Black non-binary and trans folks make up the foundation of my practice of worldmaking. Therefore, making this film was an investment in anti-hegemonic creative research to visualize, hear, understand, and present Blackqueerness as it is, has been, and could be. I am honored to have been trusted by many Blackqueer peers to share their dynamic moments of vulnerability, joy, nostalgia, frustration, and ever-looming worry and hope wrapped around the same cloud. Working with a small crew coming together to create our archives allowed me to learn more about myself while listening to the likes of others.
