Replacement

A Boy's tooth is loose and his Mother has marked a date to have the tooth pulled. The Boy is terrified of the pain; it may as well be a death sentence. The fear causes immense anxiety and he spirals down into a web of nightmares and irrational ways to avoid his Mother.

결국 올 것이 오고야 말았다. 앞니가 흔들거리는 걸 엄마가 알게 된 것이다. 이를 뽑아야 하는 공포에서 벗어나고 찾아온 또 다른 불안감, 쉬운게 하나도 없다.

Director Biography - Boyoung Kim

A Korean filmmaker and illustrator. She started animation production in 2013, directed 5 animated films, including her debut film Replacement(2013) which won the Independent Walk Award at the Indie Anifest (2013) have won awards & been nominated at many international film festivals.
Her most well-known work, The Levers (2019) which won the best animation short at the Festival du Film Coréen à Paris 2019 and nominated at about 80 festivals including Annecy Animation Festival (2019). Her films have also been featured at domestic & international exhibitions and “Impersonation” and “Prey” were aired on European art channel ARTE TV. 
Her latest film, “A Guitar in the Bucket," also has been won and nominated at many international film festivals around the world and was selected for a Vimeo staff pick.

Director Statement

이갈이는 더 단단한 새 이를 얻기 위해서 피할 수 없는 교체 (Replacement) 의 과정이자 시기적으로 가장 먼저 겪어야 하는 최초의 성장 관문이라고도 할 수 있다.
살다 보면 피할 수 없고 반드시 극복해야 하는 경험도 하게 되지만, 아픔이 있으면 보상도 따른다는 것, 죽을만큼 무서웠던 것들도 지나고 보면 별일 아니었음을 전혀 알 수 없었던 유년시절의 순간들이 있다.
어린시절 가장 충격적 경험 중 하나였던 이뽑기의 기억을 되살려 성장과정에 압도된 아이가 발치의 공포를 겪게되는 이야기를 그려보았다.
