Martina Reese’s subtle, provocative short films in narrative and documentary genres have drawn film festival recognition, including Pity (German United Film Festival 2018 Semi-Finalist; Malta Film Festival 2019 Official Selection), Slow Me Down (French Independent Film Festival 2019 Official Selection), and The Librarians (Rome Film Awards 2019 Official Selection). After her productive years maximizing the creative possibilities of tiny-budget, short-form storytelling, Martina advanced into long-form projects with her 2021 debut feature, Zombie, filmed during the Covid-19 pandemic and a manifestation of its zeitgeist. Exile, her second feature-length film, was completed in June 2022 and is an official selection the Polish International Film Festival.
Becoming a film creator woke me up from a feeling of going through the motions. I love filmmaking because it is hard but not impossible. II love it because it involves so much disappointment, yet there seems to always be a way to channel failure into growth. I have never been comfortable in a narrow discipline and film brings everything together. Everything.
