I’m a filmmaker born in Philadelphia and raised between Northern and Southern California. Stop-motion was my first love; from an early age I enjoyed creating with my hands. In high school, I started shooting and producing micro-budget shorts & features with my friends - a group of collaborators I still work with today. While attending Chapman University for my BFA in Screenwriting and a minor in Creative and Cultural Industries, I studied experimental and non-narrative films in the graduate program under professors Chuck Workman and Thomas Ethan Harris.
Since college, I’ve actively been working across a variety of features, shorts, music videos, and commercial content. My last film, TO BEYOND, won best experimental feature at Indie Gathering in Ohio, in addition to playing at Bizarroland (Orlando) and Another Hole in the Head (San Francisco). I'm most passionate about media that challenges audiences to open up to new experiences and become active viewers.
Yoshi is a response to the rising trend of extremism in America. Over the last decade, fringe beliefs have merged with mainstream politics, resulting in a daily violation of human rights. Bigotry, paranoia, mental illness, and desperation contribute to an onslaught of political violence. As boycotts, mass protests, and petitions for change become regular occurrences, why is that certain individuals feel the need to go further?
This project was filmed in Hollywood and Downtown Los Angeles in the weeks shortly after the ICE raids in Minneapolis. Filming was done as a mix of documentary and fiction; all content within the film is based on documented instances of violence in America and abroad. As the filmmaker, my hope is to address recent events and challenge how audiences react to the modern political landscape.
