YELLO WORLD is the first episode of a serialized rock opera that was originally titled THE END OF THE WORLD, which seemed too depressing; the title became HELLO WORLD, optimistically calling on technology and innovation to rush to the rescue. After the great fires of 2020, the title became YELLO WORLD because this rock opera is not about THE END – hopeless – nor the learner's new optimistic message – HELLO. Director Biography - Zann Gill

Zann Gill believes that “making media actionable” can make a difference in our world. As a Research Scientist and Program Designer at RIACS (Research Institute for Advanced Computer Science), contracted to NASA (US National Aeronautics and Space Administration), she entrepreneured her vision for a global sustainability collaboratory. But this work needed a platform outside government. So she started earthDECKS, which draws analogy to card games. In this “deck of cards” each card is a media story in a distributed network of stories — high impact media making a difference. Director Statement

YELLO WORLD is our first short toward producing a full length rock opera as an episodic series of film shorts — Rorschach ink blots that each of us interprets. In YELLO WORLD eight mythic archetypes in Silicon Valley face the end of the world. Theseus meets Ariadne and the Minotaur, who turns out not to be the monster we feared. We fear her warning, which forces us to look at ourselves. Our mindsets trap us in a labyrinth of perverse consumption (sex & money) and the military-industrial complex (engineers & puppeteers). Only by “changing our minds” can we escape. Theseus' mission to the Minotaur is a wake-up call to save our Earth and Ocean heritage. This first short in a series will also serve as a media portal, following the format of our demo media portal PLASTIC at http://earthDECKS.org. YELLO WORLD media portal will feature stories about media addressing global challenges.
