Director Statement

I realized that there's a need to tell African stories; the need to ask questions from parents, grandparents, community leaders and so on. I decided to ask the questions and I got the answers.
The film Yeku is based on a true life story and I got the help of Temi Sodipo to add more depth to the story to create something different from the norm. As the director I had a certain vision for the film.
Overall it was a great experience shooting and bringing the story to life. This is my first time on a major set working with major actors like Tope Tedela and Debbie Ohiri who is a stage actor making her debut on screen. After Spending 3- 4 days directing and talking just to bring to life what I envisioned, i will gladly say that it was an experience worth having and my crew and I pulled through despite the challenges.
My main focus was on building emotions. I worked with the crew to create what I wanted the audience to see; which is the passion and strive of a mother.
My intention is to make a prequel or a sequel to this story through an anthology to form a feature film. That's why some loose ends remain in the story like the mention of Yeku's half sister, the survival of the children and so on. I hope to get more support and recognition to bring the whole story to life.

In Conclusion, The story shows a mother's thrive while showing how people struggle with religion and spirituality.
