Ian is currently studying PhD Film at Lancaster University while producing a series of short films as part of his PhD practice.
Ian is a recently qualified Cinematographer and Director of Photography working on several short films during his MA studies as camera operator, lighting and cinematographer.
Ian graduated from Bournemouth University with a Masters Degree in Cinematography for Digital Film and Television in 2014 and is a founding member of the award winning Independent Film Production company, ‘Smudgerhunt Film’, which was formed by former students of Bournemouth University.
Ian also graduated from the Arts University Bournemouth (Film School) in Digital Media Production and Film and this was where he developed his early camera and editing skills his passion as a filmmaker.
Ian has previously worked in the professional Television and Theatre Industry in Lighting responsible for Lighting installations in TV Studios and Theatres in Europe and Asia.
This is only my second outing as Director since finishing my studies, all my previous film credits are for Cinematography and Lighting.
This was a challenging film to make with much of the film shot in the moment of a live music and food festival, which meant thinking on my feet looking for interesting subjects and locations for me and my assistant, Listya on 2nd camera to film (she is a fellow student from Indonesia).
The final film came together in edit and although I had the outline of a film in mind at the start of the project, the final film had a few surprises, which took the project in an interesting direction. There is also the promise of more films to be made, with the aim of filming a series of Yayu inspired films on street food for release on the web as a short series.
