Yael entered the film industry in 2015 with his first screenplay, “175.” which has won 22 awards, including the PARIS INTL FILM FESTIVAL, LOVE WINS FILM FESTIVAL, and THE GOLDEN SCRIPT COMPETITION. His work caught the eye of MARSHA POSNER WILLIAMS, a two-time EMMY and three-time GOLDEN-GLOBE-winning producer. Williams produced his directorial debut, “MY SECRET LAKE,” which picked up an SFAAF Award and is distributed on AMAZON PRIME VIDEO.
In 2017, due to Hurricane Maria’s damage inflicted on Puerto Rico, he was inspired to create a cinematic message of hope for the island entitled, “WHO WE ARE,” which won an award at the MY HERO INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL and a TELLY AWARD. The short film has amassed millions of views on social media and was broadcast to 20,000 attendees during the Puerto Rican benefit concert, “SOMOS UNO.” Deynes began work on the documentary “NUESTRAS HISTORIAS” in 2018 and launched the project by documenting interviews with Puerto Ricans affected by the hurricane.
In late 2018 he wrote and directed the short films “CAN YOU SEE ME? “and “URGES,” winning several awards both produced by Williams. In 2019, Deynes began work on the screenplay S.T.A.R. (The story of SYLVIA RIVERA and MARSHA P. JOHNSON). The script has won 27 awards, among them QUEER WRITES, LONDON INTL SCREENWRITING COMPETITION, NY SCRIPT AWARDS, and LOS ANGELES INTL UNDERGROUND FILM FESTIVAL.
In just seven short years, Deynes has accomplished 17 SHORT FILMS two documentaries, has written five feature screenplays, and has garnered over 60 AWARDS for his films and screenplays worldwide.
Entirely self-taught, Deynes attributes his knack for storytelling to his grandmother’s vivid tales and the everlasting desire to do the right thing.
